A new paradigm for writing
In America: good practice – but no reflections In Europe: bad practice – but good intensions
We have to rethink writing and practicing writing – according to both paradigms.
Writing: not for school but for the world (constructing the world)
Writing as a linguistic process - how do we get access to language - how do we get access to the world - what is language (production, reception)
“We write what we think and mean” – problem! Are people media for language? How are people interacting with language? / using language?
Traditions – new - writing about life, about everyday experiences - or: writing in school
School means: free time – being away from practice – being in an abstract isolated world!
Contradiction: How can we teach writing in a “school”? – That means writing about school and not the world!
PISA – in 3 days! Some countries do not get god results – for instance Denmark What is wrong in the way we are practicing writing?
(1) Identify the present situation in how writing is taught in Europe (and America/how adapted?) (2) establish a new theoretical basic based on empirical research (new paradigm) (3) establish new writing practices to be used in Europe
(1) (Exploring the contemporary theory and practice in American writing tradition). (2) Exploring the contemporary theory and practice in European writing tradition. (3) Exploring the adoption of the American writing tradition to the European tradition. (4) Establishing hypothesises of writing processes. (5) Establishing an empirical basis for researching writing processes in Europe – studying writing classes. (6) Implementation of new writing concept on writing classes – all levels in the education system. (7) Releasing the result of the project to the public. (8) Evaluation of the European Text Production Project. (9) Strategies for the future – theoretical and practical in the school system.
